Vela scored one of the best goals of Arsenal this season but it was Eduardo for me will steal most of the headlines!

What a performance it was. Absolutely perfect and I don’t want to critisize any little thing that Arsenal didn’t do right, that is if there was any!

It was a shaky start to the match. Both sides giving away possession way too easily but slowly but surely Arsenal became the dominant side. Both sides had quite a few half chances until Vela produced an absolute gem of a goal. His first touch was brilliant as it got him away from the defenders and then making use of his pace, he out ran the defenders and his ice cool lob over the keeper was as good as any world class striker would be able to score. That was arguably one of the best goals of this season for Arsenal. That goal gave Arsenal renewed confidence and the attacks became more dangerous. Corners again and again but most were poor, particularly by Arshavin. Eboue, who was having a very good game, then had a great opportunity to make it two as Eduardo slid the ball through for him only for the keeper to save Eboue’s attempt on goal. The resulting corner was poorly taken by Arshavin. Vela had a good opportunity late on but Carlisle made a vital last ditch clearance. At half time it was just 1-0 but the way Arsenal were playing, the game looked to be over already.

Coming into the second half, the Gunners picked up from where left off. Burnley did have a few decent chances at the start of it but it was Arsenal who were quite clearly the better side. Chance after chance. Eduardo made it two just 6 mins into the 2nd half. Song sent in a delightful ball into the box for the Croat to volley in first time with the outside of his foot. The finish was world class and so was the ball by Song. Surely Fabregas would be proud of Song for such a high quality assist. Later Eduardo had a decent chance as he chested the ball away from the defenders but just as he was about to take the shot the defender cleared the ball away for a corner. Walcott then had a great opportunity after coming on as a substitute. Arshavin sent him through on goal with a terrific through ball but the youngster’s finish was straight at Jensen. They may not have got the goal but the quick movement and passing on this attack was a treat to watch. Walcott soon made ammends for his miss with a chipped cross towards the far post to find an unmarked van Persie, only for the Dutchman to mistime his volley and miss the target by quite a distance. Walcott was in the thick of the action once again as his quick run was picked up with an amazing through ball by Arshavin. The young Englishman was one on one with the keeper with van Persie joining him for support. Walcott passed it to van Persie instead of taking the shot and van Persie easily put the ball into the back of the net only to be ruled out offside. However replays showed it was a wrong decision by the referee’s assistant. Then finally Eboue put the icing on the cake. Song completed a superb performance by finding Eboue with a back heel pass, who made a surging run into the box and finished it low and powerful, into the bottom corner. The final whistle was a sigh of relief for Burnley as Arsenal were looking increasingly dangerous with Walcott pace tearing apart the defence time and again. 3-0 it ended and they sure deserved it!

It was such a complete performance. I just love the FA Cup because one gets to see Arsenal at their best! The football we saw today was delightful. You don’t see the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea play such beautiful football. For me the pick of the match was Song! What a performance it was from him. He was a rock at the back and even going forward he was excellent. We have all critisized him for his inability to make good forward passes but today he pierced the defence open with quite a few through balls and he got two assists. Eduardo and Vela may have done really well too but in my opinion Song was the man of the match. Gibbs also looked very good. He is a very talented player. Arshavin also was excellent. His couple of through balls were out of this world. Reminded me of Fabregas! Eduardo and Vela were awesome. We so missed Dudu. His finishing is exactly what Arsenal need. He can even be better than van Persie! As for Vela, he will be an Arsenal legend one day I hope! He certainly has the ability to! The finish we saw, and that too from a 19 year old was like wow! And Walcott was also terrific. His movement on and off the ball. His runs, control and passes, everything was perfect. Only thing missing was a goal which he should have scored. Lets hope we see a similar performance in Rome in the mid-week and we will all be setting our sights on an FA Cup and Champions League double! Arsene Wenger is also hopeful regarding the two competitions:

“Is it possible to win two trophies? Yes because we are in there. After that it is important to give everything we can to make it happen. Many big competitors are in there so let’s see how well it goes on Wednesday night and then see. We are going into the final sprint and for us it’s important to keep all our targets alive. Slowly we have players coming back and that can of course be decisive.”

They say how good your season is is shown by how you finish it not how you start it. I remember Manchester United making a hopeless start a couple of seasons back but in the end they won the Premier League.
