0 felipe melo fiorentina barcelonaThere were rumours today stating Arsenal have missed out on the signing of Melo as Juventus have bought the Brazilian international. Those rumours are false for now, but soon they will be a reality according to Juve’s president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli.

Giovanni Cobolli Gigli explained that there are still some terms in the contract remaining before Melo will be officially unveiled as a Juventus player:

“Melo is not yet a Juve player. The negotiations are still ongoing.

“We still need to define certain terms to officially confirm his signing.”

So that is another possible target gone. Probably Fiorentina asking for Eboue in the deal put Arsene Wenger off as the Arsenal manager is a known admirer of the Ivorian international.

Arsenal could now turn their attention to Marseille’s Lorik Cana who should come very cheap indeed at just £6.5m. Or St. Ettiene’s Blaise Matuidi is another option as he himself wants a move to Arsenal. My choice would be Cana but it’s Wenger’s choice that matters.

cana2502268369_92057ac656Marseille captain Lorik Cana was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal at the start of this year’s summer transfer window but as the Vermaelen speculation increased, that of Cana disappeared.

But now that Vermaelen deal seems to be nearly completed as his agent confirmed so Arsene Wenger can now turn his attention to a holding midfielder now; and Cana is a good option. The Albanian international stated that he has not decided whether to stay or leave as yet but in case he moves England or Germany would be his preferred destination.

“I will talk with my family and my representatives. It will then depend on what I want to do. I believe that if I want to leave, everyone at this club will respect my decision.

“It is not certain that I will be terminating my contract though. I am in no rush.

“Of the possible destinations in the future, England and Germany are the two leagues that attract me the most.”

cana21Arsenal fans might be hoping Lorik Cana is bought but the Marseille holding midfielder has pledged his future to his current club. The Albanian international said:

“I love this club so much that I want to reach the heights with it and to make them champions. We have to fight to the end. We will have to fight for the title each year now that the club has stepped up a level.”

That is the case now. The French season isn’t over yet. Cana might win his first Ligue 1 title with Marseille, and that too as their captain. After that, if Wenger is actually interested in him, I am sure he will reconsider his future.

Talking a bit off topic now. I came accross a very surprising fact regarding Cana. In his four seasons at Marseille he has only been sent off once! Just once! Having a look at the videos of him, it is quite astonishing to know he has only got the red once. But then I guess the referees in Ligue 1 are very lenient compared to those of the Premier League.
