Now that Adebayor is gone I decided to republish an article I wrote about him back in February this year, with a few modifications:

Details of goals scored by Adebayor last season:

With Fabregas:
Blackburn – 3 (header + penalty)
FC Porto – 2 (header + penalty)
Fenerbahce – 1 (one on one, through ball provided by Fabregas)
West Ham – 1
Tottenham – 1 (tap in)
Wigan (one on one, assisted by Fabregas)
Middlesbrough (header from a Fabregas corner)
Manchester City – 2 (one on ones, both assisted by Fabregas)
Villareal (bicycle kick, still the pass was Fabregas’s)
Villareal

Without Fabregas:
FC Twente – 1 (one on one)
Hull City – 1 (header)

That says it all. For Adebayor to score you have to send him one on one with the keeper so he can finish it and only Fabregas can do the job. Barry, Ireland, Petrov etc. aren’t good enough to lick Fabregas’s boots. Even then the number of chances that Adebayor misses far outweighs the number of goals that he scores. If there was a statistic for number of misses, Ade would be at the top of the list I am sure! Adebayor scores (1) one on ones, (2) tap ins and (3) headers. To be a world class striker you have to do much better than that. We have van Persie and he is a complete forward but Adebayor is just not good enough. So 25m for Adebayor is ridiculous! Arsene Wenger has pulled off another masterpiece.

Last season we saw him hit straight at the keeper on one on ones and cushion the ball to the keeper from free headers six or seven yards away from goal. And lately he moves to the flank, receives a pass, slows down the attack by holding the ball and eventually gives it back to the player he got the pass from (This way he ended a lot of our counter attacks by giving players time to get back). Hard to believe a player like that cost 25m to Man City. Silly Hughes. He was more of a liability last season than an asset. The 30 goals he got two season back will be a once in a lifetime achievement for him. Mr. One Season Wonder.

The 30 goals he scored shows he has the potential. Remember the stunning volleys he scored last season? Oh and that goal against Villareal. Awesome. But now that he is playing for just money so the talent will be wasted. We might see an odd stunner or two but that’s all.

So Man City fans who are getting excited need not be. But one thing they can be sure of is Adebayor will probably stay at City till he retires. Because he plays for money and he won’t get as much money as he is getting now anywhere else. He is all about money.

So Adebayor, we won’t miss you. Go to hell. You never know he might be warming the bench there just like Hleb did after he left. City have Tevez, Santa Cruz, Robinho, Adebayor and Bellamy now. So he won’t get as much first team action as he did here. But then he doesn’t care as long as he’s getting the money.

Anyway, do you think a replacement is needed? If yes then who should it be? Vote in the following poll and lets see what the fans want now.

KarimBenzemaOLAs expected it has been made public that Arsenal have not contacted Lyon to inquire about Karim Benzema. And surprisingly Manchester United and Real Madrid have also not made any offer yet according to  Lyon director of communications, Olivier Blanc:

“We have not received any official offer for Karim, either from Madrid, Manchester or Arsenal.”

It’s not a surprise really. Benzema will not join Arsenal and there is no question about it. Firstly he is too expensive for Arsenal. Secondly we don’t need a striker and Wenger made that very clear at the start of the summer.

Even though I would love him in an Arsenal shirt but that is just wishful thinking. We would love Messi playing for Arsenal as well so really it’s just wishful thinking. Every fan would love to have a player of Benzema’s quality in the team but you have to think realistically as well.

Ok he is French, ok he could be Adebayor’s replacement but I just don’t think it’s going to happen. NOTW just came up with a new idea for greater sales which has got a lot of fans thinking could he possibly come. Well the answer, in my opinion, is no he won’t.

wenger-334In the last few summers we have seen a lot of departures and deadline-day signings. But Arsene Wenger doesn’t want that this year. The Arsenal manager has thus tied van Persie’s future to the club already with reports suggesting the Dutchman has nearly signed a new contract. Fabregas and Bendtner were linked with moves away from the club but both have reiterated their commitment to Arsenal.

The only likely departures seem like Adebayor and Eboue. Ebuoe said he will only leave if a ‘big’ club wants him as he thinks clubs like Fiorentina aren’t up to his level. Same goes for Adebayor. He hasn’t had any offer from a big club yet and when he does he will consider his future. So it means Eboue surely won’t leave! As for Adebayor… Maybe.

“We lost Hleb and Flamini last summer and we have had to rebuild. But we have done that now and the future looks bright. We don’t want to have to rebuild again, so I want to keep all the players together for next season. I don’t want to lose anyone.

“I want to add to the squad and have identified one or two targets. But identifying players and buying them are two different things.

“Ideally I would like to bring everybody in before we start back in pre-season training in July. I don’t want to leave it until the end of August.

“We are at a stage where we need to convince people that this team does a lot of things right. It does not need to be transformed. When you go on a long unbeaten run in the Premier League and reach two semi-finals, common sense should tell you that.

“We have to take encouragement from what we have done in the season just gone.

“I am fed-up with people who think I have £100m in the bank yet don’t want to spend it. How can people think that? “The pride of the club is in having moved to a new stadium while maintaining the club at the top level.

“The policy of the club is that they have backed me in what I do and the way I do it. We now have to be strong enough to stick to that. We cannot pump £100m into it, so we must keep faith in what we are doing.

“Next season we will play the formation and system that most suits the players and the balance of the team.

“That means it’s not rigid. It can evolve throughout the season, depending on circumstances and personnel.

“If you play with Theo Walcott for example, you are more tempted to go for three midfielders because Theo is more of a forward than a midfielder in a 4-4-2.”

The one or two players he has identified better be holding midfielders!

But soon the season started getting worse…

Alexander Hleb

Alexander Hleb

So Alexander Hleb is tired of just sitting on the bench week in week out that he decided to speak up and be hated even more.

The Belarus international and former Gunner feels Arsenal will lose players in the summer because of Arsene Wenger’s strict wage policy. That will make the job very difficult for Arsene (just like last year when he left to warm the bench at Barca).

“Arsenal have had a lot of problems this year. They have the same problem every year with players leaving. They have a great team, but at the end of the season players leave and the boss has to find a new team and buy new players. This is not easy.

“You know better than me why players leave. Finances are always an issue there, but you’d have to ask Arsenal and Arsène. A lot of the problem is to do with money. Players arrive at the club, have a good season and get a lot of better offers from other teams. A football life is short and, of course, you want to enjoy football, but together with this you need to earn money.”

So he thinks other Arsenal players will turn out be as greedy as he himself is, and Flamini as well. Adebayor yes. I doubt about the others.

And I just can’t get it why does he care to make such comments. As if they help to improve his popularity. Stupid lad.

Adebayor - His finishing will be missed

Adebayor - His finishing will be missed

Every summer the prime target for Arsene Wenger is to keep his players rather than buy more. Though he hasn’t been able to keep all players successfully in recent years. Most recently Hleb, Flamini and Gilberto were on the leaving list.

This year Emmanuel Adebayor looks most likely to be departing. The Togolese forward has expressed discontent over the way fans have been treating him lately, though it has to be mentioned here that only a particular negative group of the fans want him out, not all.

He has been strongly linked with Arsenal’s title rivals Chelsea. Wenger has also not ruled out one of his players leaving for a rival club.

“I do not know if the future of Emmanuel is with Arsenal,” he told Calcio Mercato. “The only certainty is that at the end of the season I will meet with Wenger to assess the situation.”

It would be sad to see him leaving but on the positive side, that will increase Wenger’s transfer kitty by around 20m and it will allow Arshavin to play in his favoured position up front.

Bischoff - Might have to move on for more first team action

Bischoff - Might have to move on for more first team action

The other Gunner who could be on his way out is the talented youngster Amaury Bischoff. First team opportunities have limited for the Potrugese midfielder and that has left him unsatisfied.

“I have a meeting this weekend with Arsène Wenger and Arsenal’s management to discuss my future. What is certain is that I can do whatever I want because I am free in a few days. I will consider all proposals that are available to me.

“If they want to keep me, why not. But under certain conditions. What I want is to play every Saturday for my club. We’ll see what happens the next few weeks. But if i have to leave, it will not be a problem.

“I have contacts everywhere. England, Germany, Portugal, Spain and even France. I go where I will play as much as possible. Because I know I can become a Portugal international. And for that, the coach Carlos Queiroz, who believes in me and told me himself, is that I need to play regular at club level. So I will probably do that.”

So it seems quite likely he will be leaving as I really don’t see Wenger preferring him over the likes of Song, Diaby and Denilson. I liked the lad from the little I saw of him and wanted him tried in the first team more often. He seemed quite talented. But maybe his future lies elsewhere. Lets see.

Adebayor could be on his way out...

Adebayor could be on his way out...

Adebayor has been criticized by fans and most recently ridiculed at the Arsenal Supporters Trust Meeting. Arsene Wenger brushed aside his criticism stating the reason for his inconsistent season has been his injuries, and not his lack of passion.

But the prospect of Adebayor leaving still remains. Arsene did not even rule out the possibility of selling to one of the other Big 4 in the wake of Adebayor being strongly linked with Chelsea. When he was asked wouldn’t it be odd to sell to one of your rivals, the Arsenal manager replied that he has done it before as well so why not again:

“If I feel that a player should go, or could go, why not sell him to one of the other top four?

“Yes, of course, it’s unusual. But we sold Ashley Cole to Chelsea and we bought William Gallas from Stamford Bridge so you cannot say I never do it because I’ve already done it.”

It is weird. First he said Adebayor is in Arsenal’s plans for the future. Then he mentions he could sell a player he wants to to a Big 4 club. Arsene is surely a man hard to understand!

Meanwhile sources close to the club have revealed that if any team – even one of the Big 4 – bid in excess of £20m, then Emmanuel Adebayor will be offloaded. That is not all. They also claim that even if he is sold, no replacement will be bought because then Arshavin could play in his favoured position.

Wenger Must Be Annoyed...

Wenger Must Be Annoyed...

Most of us want Adebayor to leave and we hate Eboue and Silvestre. So do the supporters and shareholders present at the Arsenal Supporters Trust meeting. So they let their harsh opinions known to Wenger.

Silvestre was the first to be ridiculed being called geriatric. The guy sure is right. Silvestre is nothing but a liability to the team. But his choice of words is awful. He could have expressed his opinion in a more decent manner. Imagine if Silvestre finds this out, how would he feel? Absolutely devastated.

So Wenger did not like the comment one bit and blasted the “supporter”:

“I cannot accept what you say about our players. Are you a shareholder? I cannot accept that you speak about the players of your club like that. I don’t agree with the terms you use.”

Later on Eboue’s record of diving was greeted with a round of applause from the gathering and when the prospect of Emmanuel Adebayor leaving Arsenal in the summer came into discussion, loud cheers were heard.

One thing is for sure now. If Wenger didn’t know already, he now knows there are some hated players wanted out by the fans. The chances are quite bleak that he might give the comments any importance, but you never know what Arsene is going to do so lets hope for the best!

Fabregas and Arsenal - A Married Couple!

Fabregas and Arsenal - A Married Couple!

The Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas like he always does reiterated his commitment to Arsenal. The lad has done it time and again whenever he is being linked with a move away from the Emirates. The young Spaniard said:

“My future belongs to Arsenal and I want to be at Arsenal. I do not have to tell anyone to be relaxed or more confident that I am staying.

“This club is very special. It’s one of the best things that has ever happened to me. They have treated me amazingly, all the fans, all the club in general. But now it’s up to me and the players to pay them back for these kind of things – to make finals and make everyone happy.”

Regarding the fans repeated wishes of buying big name players the captain added:

“It doesn’t mean that because one player cost £20m, he is better than one that cost £2 – I don’t agree with that at all,” said Fabregas. “It’s been shown with the likes of Patrick Vieira, Dennis Bergkamp, Robert Pires, Thierry Henry. They are the best players in the world, have World Cups, European Championships and some players who have cost £20/£30m, they haven’t won anything.

“It doesn’t mean anything. We know what we can do, we know we are good and we just have to be positive and believe we can do it. I know the boss is the best. We just have to be united, the boss, the staff and the team all together.”

What else would one want from the best player of his team. The first two paragraphs there say it all. We are all proud to have him at Arsenal as our captain.

Adebayor - A changed man...

Adebayor - A changed man...

A few days later Adebayor did the same with quite an emotional speech of how it’s Arsenal who made him and he won’t leave the Gunners till he has helped them win trophies:

“Before signing, I can remember people telling me I had the chance to win things.

“Now I am empty-handed but I don’t have any reason for leaving until I have got trophies and what I came here for.

“Arsenal put me where I am today. They made me one of the biggest strikers in the world. I have to pay them back.

“How am I going to pay them back? Make them win trophies. That’s what I am here for and I have to fight for that. Next season, 100 per cent, I am an Arsenal footballer.

“I will do everything that it takes to come back next season and show how good I am, show character, personality and desire for this club. I have been doing my best, giving 100 per cent in every single game but don’t forget last season I played without injury. This time I got three injuries and that has made it quite difficult for me.

“But we have a good squad. We are learning things and are all young so we just want to achieve things. As soon as we have the chance to win the first trophy, I think many will follow.

“We just have to believe and keep going. We are very disappointed tonight for the fans and for the way they believed we could do it. We are very sorry for that.

“But it’s very important for the next season that we are here to play and ready to bring glory to this Club.”

van Persie - Undecided over his future

van Persie - Undecided over his future

Another one of our biggest players who is bound to be linked with big clubs in the summer has been silent over his future. van Persie. He had earlier in the season suggested he wants trophies and that he will have to consider his future if he feels he is not getting what he wants at Arsenal.

So the question is will he, in the coming days, follow his teammates and commit his future to Arsenal. Or does he think he is bigger than the club? What do you think?

One thing is for sure. If he goes to Barca he will warm the bench there just like Hleb.

3476111805_5c8a507040

Almunia – 7 – He showed today how much we missed him. Despite being out for some time, he did not let it show. A very solid performance and that save to deny Aliadiere was just world class. It’s great to have him back for the semi final against Manchester United.

Eboue – 7 – Good enough. It was a good decision of Arsene to play Eboue at right back ahead of Sagna as the latter was very poor in the mid-week. His passing was good and he had a wonderful assist as well (No wonder why Wenger called him ‘Pass Master’!). But he was looking too eager to go forward which can leave a gap at the back.

Toure and Silvestre – 7 – Hardly had anything to do but when they did they did not put a foot wrong.

Gibbs – 7.5 – Yet another superb performance. The youngster is impressing everyone with surprisingly good performances. He knows when to go forward, making aggressive runs; links up quite well with Arshavin and hardly lets anyone past him when defending.

Nasri – 6.5 – He can put in decent tackles like he showed today but I prefer an attacking role for him. He did give away the ball a few times today. But still not a bad performance.

Denilson – 6.5 – Short passes all match but it’s good because he doesn’t have enough quality for through balls and long passes that the likes of Fabregas, Arshavin and Nasri do. But he was the holding midfielder and did his job well enough today. Still I feel Song is better.

Arshavin – 8 – Pure class. To come to the Premier League, then put up such world class performances in every single match is just amazing. Hats off to the lad.

Fabregas – 8.5 – He is just too good. His range of passing, vision and he even showed some cool finishing today. Amazing.

Walcott – 6.5 – He is always a constant threat to the opposition but sometimes his decision making lets him down. Passing the ball when he should be taking the defender on or the other way around . Also his first touch is quite poor at times and he needs to improve his crossing. No one is going to head crosses that come at 100 miles an hour. But he has immense talent no doubt about that so he will learn. His ability to take on defenders is a big big asset.

Bendtner – 7 – He worked really hard today. But he is a forward so he should play where the forward is supposed to be and not shift to the wing too often. Still it was one of the better performances from the young Dane.

Substitutes:

Djourou – 7 – He was good enough. Maybe because he hardly had anything to do! I would prefer him over Silvestre anytime, especially on Wednesday against Manchester United.

Diaby – 6.5 – Got a little time but he was quite intent on going forward an troubling the Boro defence. I know most wont agree but I rate him higher than Denilson.

Adebayor – 5 – Looked very rusty after returning from some time out due to injury. Couldn’t threaten the defence or keeper and wasted a good opportunity because of a poor touch.
