Laurent Blanc

Bordeaux manager Laurent Blanc believes forward Marouane Chamakh could be heading to the Emirates in the next 48 hours. But that is if Arsenal really want him which the coach doesn’t think is the case.

Arsenal really want Chamakh? It is exactly the question that I ask myself and I believe no.

“Frankly, I believe if they really want him, he could join them within 48 hours.

“I would like him to stay. Early last season I told him, when he already wanted to leave for England, ‘Have another good season with us. If you score between 10 and 15 goals, you will be in a strong position to leave for a big club’.

“I gave him my word and I told him I would let him leave. I am keen to respect what I said.”

KlaasJan_Huntelaar__387527399Arsene Wenger is finding it hard to cough up any more than £6m for Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh but according to Real Madrid’s special advisor Zinedine Zidane, the Arsenal manager has bid a staggering £17m for unwanted Real Madrid forward Klass-Jan Huntelaar.

But despite the huge offer Zidane said the Dutchman is nearing a move to AC Milan instead. I could not find the exact comments anywhere so I am not exactly sure about the authenticity of this story.

3559034065_218e10d51bBordeaux manager Laurent Blanc has paved the way for Chamakh’s move to Arsenal saying he will not let the Morrocon international to leave for a small club, but if a big club comes in (apparently Arsenal who are a big club have made a move for him) he will not stop Chamakh from leaving:

“I am going to do everything to make sure he does not go to just any club. With him, things are clear. After the season he’s had, if he has to go, it will be to a big club. That’s why I am standing in the way of a departure to Sunderland.

“I am not going to change what I said to him at the start of the year. If an offer comes from a big club, I will not stand in the way. The door is half-open.”

So as Arsene Wenger has already enquired about him, one can guess the move is on the cards now. So Bordeaux’s president’s statement that finalising the move could drag on like a soap opera is a kind of contradiction as the manager is willing to let go easily.

BORDEAUX_CHAMAKH_010309Arsenal have been linked with highly rated Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh this summer even though 14 goals from 42 games last season doesn’t seem like a good enough record to attract interest from Arsene Wenger.

Now Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud has confirmed that Wenger is not interested in Chamakh:

“That is only chatter.

“I don’t know where it came from, but I never heard any Arsenal representatives since (Sylvain) Wiltord, which means almost eight years.”

It’s not a surprise really because Arsene Wenger made it clear Arsenal have enough strikers and don’t need any more of them. Even if Wenger did change his mind, I doubt he would have gone for Chamakh.

silvestre29102008_1French side Bordeaux have lost their main central defender Diawara and a replacement is needed soon. Their manager wants “a central defender left of experience, having experienced the Champions League.” And according to L’Equipe Blanc first was looking for Lokomotiv Moscow defender Marco Basa. But his yearly salary of 2.5m scared him off.

Now they have turned attention to Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre. Silvestre clearly fits the description of the sort of defender needed perfectly and would be an ideal replacement for Diawara. Whether or not Blanc chooses to make an offer, only time will tell. For now lets all hope he does!
