Arsenal’s star player Andrei Arshavin was asked by a fan whether he is satisfied with Arsenal’s lack of spending and whether he thinks Arsenal can challenge for the title this season:

Q. Do you think Arsenal will prove to be serious contenders for the Premier League this year?
Are you satisfied with the club’s development strategy in this area (cheap breeding, relying on youth)?

A. Each club has its own development strategy, so we – the players must take it the way it is.
Can we be champions? I hope this year we will.

7629665Fulham manager Roy Hodgson is now resigned to the fact that he might not be able to keep his star centre back Brede Hangeland, particularly fearing Arsenal could take him away from Craven Cottage.

Manchester United didn’t want to lose (Cristiano) Ronaldo and they did, Liverpool didn’t want to lose (Xabi) Alonso.

“There comes a time if you’re Fulham, or even Manchester United or Chelsea that things have to be looked at in the cold light of day and you have to take things into account.

“It annoys me when fans say things like ‘it’s ridiculous to get him go’ because to say that you have to know all the facts.

“It’s no surprise he’s been linked with clubs because really good quality centre-halves are always at a premium.

“When a club like Arsenal – or Manchester City or Liverpool – when they lose a player the attention will always turn towards who the other good centre-backs are in the Premier League and who they could be looking at.

“Arsenal have done their business very quietly and they keep things to themselves. We’ve had no contact with Arsenal and whether there’s an interest only Arsene knows.

“When I see him interviewed he says he has enough centre-halves and is not in the market for one. Only he knows what his true feelings are.”

KlaasJan_Huntelaar__387527399Arsene Wenger is finding it hard to cough up any more than £6m for Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh but according to Real Madrid’s special advisor Zinedine Zidane, the Arsenal manager has bid a staggering £17m for unwanted Real Madrid forward Klass-Jan Huntelaar.

But despite the huge offer Zidane said the Dutchman is nearing a move to AC Milan instead. I could not find the exact comments anywhere so I am not exactly sure about the authenticity of this story.

Some ignorant ESPN pundits have predicted a gradual demise of Arsenal. Amazing how people who pretend to know it all are actually that stupid. Check the video out here.

Some Arsenal players tried a new game at the Arsenal’s Member’s Day. 3 on 3 football tennis! Fabregas, Merida and Song teamed up against Walcott, Denilson and Wilshere.

Arsenal players took on the Crossbar Challenge at the Arsenal’s Memeber’s Day. But the competition did not yield a winner! Alex Song came closest to winning but his attempt could only hit the post. Unsurprisingly Arsene Wenger’s attempt was the worst of them all!

So Wenger has admitted he will think about signing Patrick Vieira. Some fans will say he is exactly what we need. A holding midfielder who is a strong leader as well. And as he is a legend of this club so most fans would love to have him back too. He could also help in the development of Song and Denilson into the sort of holding midfielders we hope they will one day turn into.

But then he is 33 now. And his recent years have been plagued with injuries. So some would say he can’t play week in week out and even when he does he won’t be able to complete 90 minutes easily.

So the question is how many fans are from the first category and how many from the second; and how many are least bothered about whether he joins or not.

gun__1232970331_senderos_milan2Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has admitted defender Phillipe Senderos will be off to Everton. The former Arsenal midfielder has been following Arsenal very closely this pre-season, like always, and has been very vocal with his opinions. Now he thinks Senderos is at a stage in his career where he wants first team football so he will most probably move on:

“I think Senderos was on loan last year for a long period of time. I think Phillipe is getting to that age now where he wants to play.

“There’s no surprises there for me. I don’t think he’s going to be part of the squad this year and, from a player’s point of view, I think it’s a good move for Philippe.

“Arsene Wenger wants players to enjoy their football and be wanted. At the moment, Philippe’s not going to be in the Arsenal side.

“So he’s got the opportunity to go to an excellent team in Everton, so good luck to him.”

vieira_16597tFrance’s coach Raymond Domenech conceded Patrick Vieira could well be playing for Arsenal this season. But he will have to play regularly at Arsenal to be assured of a starting place in the France side according to Domenech:

“Pat needs to play a lot to feel good and to get back to his best level.

“He has to keep playing. I hope he will start playing – at Arsenal or Inter Milan.”

22347_newsJose Anotonio Reyes may not be an Arsenal player anymore but he wants Arsenal to prosper which is why the Athletico Madrid player gave his opinion of Viera’s importance to Arsenal:

“He was an incredible player here and will always be a great player. If he comes everyone knows him and he would be an important player for Arsenal. Every player who is made captain is nominated for a special reason, he has certain talents, and Patrick was an extraordinary captain. He has a very important presence in the dressing-room.”

Right on. I don’t think there would be many Gooners out there who doubt Viera and don’t want him to return.
