We've finally got our man! Look how excited he is!

We've finally got our man! Look how excited he is!

The wait is finally over! Arshavin has now officially joined Arsenal. The Russian was ecstatic over the move and so was Arsene Wenger. The Arsenal manager said:

“We are delighted to have signed Andrey Arshavin, he is a player I have admired for a long time. He is a versatile player with great experience, who will add real quality to our squad. Andrey is an exciting impact player with a huge amount of ability and has been an influential force with both Zenit St Petersburg and the Russian national team in recent seasons.”

And Arshavin said:

“I am so happy to be joining Arsenal. They are one of the leading football clubs in the world, with a group of fantastic young players and a great manager. I am looking forward to making the Arsenal supporters happy and helping this great Club win trophies.”

Arsenal’s recently appointed Chief Executive Ivan Glazidis was also a happy man. He said:

“Andrey was identified by Arsène as a quality creative player that would add something special to this youthful but talented squad. The Board has always backed the manager with his transfer targets and we are delighted to welcome Andrey to the Club where he will help us to challenge for honours this season.”

Arshavin set to wear the no.13 shirt at Arsenal

One of longest running and most annoying tranfer sagas has apparently come to an end! Arshavin is now a Gunner! The only thing left is for the Premier League officials to sign the paperwork to make the deal official. All Gooners can now breathe a sigh of relief. According to different sources the Russian has cost £10m or £12m. So it is nearly half the price of £20m that Zenit had initially demanded. To add to that the forward has taken a £20,000 pay cut, came to London on deadline day on his private jet and the trip cost him £25,000 and paid Zenit half of his signing on fee. Just shows how much the guy wanted to join Arsenal (or leave Zenit!). So at £10m or £12m, the playmaker should be a bargain considering how much quality he has.

Zenit St. Petersburg’s manager Dick Advocaat believes Arsenal have made a wonderful bargain deal which will do wonders for them. He said:

“Arsenal don’t realise just how good a player Andrei Arshavin is. He’ll be a sensation in England. He’s worth more than they have paid.”

Every manager knows his player best so if that’s what Advocaat thinks of Arshavin, then we will take his opinion!

Former Arsenal player Paul Merson agrees with Advocaat and says:

“He will fit in to Arsenal perfectly. He’s a good little player, he’s got a great football brain and would slot straight into the pass-and-move way. He might not be what Arsenal need specifically, but they just need players right now. He is a top player.”

After all that happened in January with first the reluctance of Zenit to lower the asking price, then the reluctance of Wenger to even pay the lowered price and then when all seemed to be going right Arshavin’s wage demands seemed to put the deal in scrutiny but all’s well that ends well! We have got the deal and that’s all that matters! May Arshavin forge a successful career at Arsenal and lead Arsenal to new heights; and most of all, win trophies!

Correction: According to Arshavin, he will be wearing the number 23 shirt and not number 13. So never mind the picture!

Arshavin - A Gunner very soon...

Arshavin - A Gunner very soon...

Zenit St. Petersburg midfielder Andrei Arshavin may be Arsenal’s 1st transfer this January. The Russian playmaker has been linked with a move to Arsenal for quite some time now and that move might finally take place in the coming days according to his agent Dennis Lachter. According to an Italian Daily the skillful star of Euro 2008 will join Arsenal on a 5 year deal for £18m.

“Andrei is rated by Wenger who wanted him to sign for Arsenal  last summer. This transfer would please everyone but we must wait a few days for confirmation.”

So he will be a Gunner in the next few days! An official statement hasn’t come out yet possibly because of the final terms of the contract would be agreed upon right now. So Arsene Wenger might finally make a transfer that will please all the Arsenal fans! I am hopeful the guy will be able to adapt to the Premier League well and should start performing within a few matches. Lets hope 2009 continues this way for Arsenal and may we see more big name signings!

2009 is just a few hours away which means the time we have been waiting for is nearly here. I’m talking about the January transfer window! I am quite optimistic this year as the transfer window approaches because from what we have heard so far we might FINALLY see Wenger spend on some proven world class players. We will all have new hopes from Arsenal for this year. May 2009 be ‘the year’ for Arsenal. May a brilliant new form start with the new year and may this year have a trophy in store for us trophy thirsty Arsenal fans! May we see a dramatic turnaround in fortunes for Arsenal this year. May Gallas learn to speak nice and may Eboue learn to play, may Song learn to tackle and may Bendtner learn to finish, may Clichy learn to make less mistakes and may Almunia keep more clean sheets! May we see world class new faces in the red and white very soon. May Rosicky, Fabregas and Walcott make speedy recoveries. And may Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Aston Villa have a bad 2009! To summarise, may 2009 be the best year Arsenal has ever had in their history:D! Happy New Year to all the readers! May you guys too have the best year of your lives so far and may your problems and worries stay back in 2008 and may happiness spread in your life with the dawn of 2009!

Now to business! Wenger’s looking to wrap up his work with the young guns beforehand so he can pay full attention to getting his transfer targets! Firstly Nacer Barazite extends his loan at Derby County till the end of the season. Secondly Jay Simpson joins West Bromwich Albion in their relegation battle on loan for the rest of the season. And lastly Gavin Hoyte joins Watford on loan for the same period of time. Hope their growth continues at a remarkable rate at their new clubs. Once again Happy New Year to all!
