Arsene Wenger is being said to have bid £10m for Zenit playmaker Andrei Arshavin and the bid has been rejected. Zenit rate the forward at £20m but the Arsenal manager, renowned for his lack of spending big money, thinks that is too high a price. Arsenal’s most expensive buy so far has been Sylvain Wiltord for £13m so if Arshavin is bought (though it seems highly unlikely now) it will make him Arsenal’s most expensive player ever. Arsenal have been linked with the Russian ace for quite a long time now and were bilieved to be the front runners to sign him; and were also reportedly having negotiations with the club. But it now seems that Arshavin’s future does not lie at Arsenal as £10m is too low to get the forward. Zenit’s spokesman on this matter stated:
“I can confirm that Zenit did get an official offer from Arsenal about Andrei Arshavin. They offered about £10m. No new offers have arrived from them since. At the moment, Arsenal are the only club to have approached us about the player.”
So there is not doubt about the stupid move by Wenger now. Zenit are demanding £20m but if you think that’s too high why not bid £17m or £18m then. At least there will be a chance of signing him but to bid £10m less than the asking price is just outrageous. Now all I can say is let’s hope the guy is joking! Bad luck!:( But still we can hope Wenger for once forgets about his philosophy of not spending much and increases his bid to £20m and Arshavin comes to Arsenal as he is desperately needed. Sweet dreams to all Gooners!
