Fiorentina thought they had tied wanted midfielder Felipe Melo’s future to the club but the contract extension seems to have proved of no use as according to their transfer chief Pantaleo Corvino, negotiations are taking place with Arsenal.
Here is the statement that appeared on the Italian club’s official website:
“The director [Corvino] points out that Arsenal FC are the only club that has come close to [Felipe Melo’s] release clause.
“Fiorentina, in turn, has proposed that the clubs reduce the amount of this clause by entering into negotiations the right back Eboue.”
It would be nice if Melo is bought as we desperately need a holding midfielder. But if it is a swap deal involving Eboue, I surely will not be pleased at all. Eboue is our only good enough back up right back and that is his best position as well. Arsenal need him and I don’t think he should be sold unless an adequate replacement is bought. Again, lets wait and see what happens. I am sure Arsene Wenger would not be eager to let Eboue go.

Although I think Eboue’s a good RB I think you have to admit that Sagna is better. If we can swap a RB we dont particularly need for a CDM we desperately need I’d consider this a very good bit of business!!

suppose toure can play there or could be buying zapata, but if eboue goes might mean we sign an attacking midfielder as well – jesus navas or eden hazard etc. still dont think melo is what we need, we need a tenacious box-to-box player

@Mark… Yeah i know man… I said Eboue is our best back up right back. Sagna is the first teamer

Patrick Vieira or Gilberto Silva were never box to box midfielders but I’d say they were fairly successful here
Besides of which, Fabregas is the link between defence and attack anyway. And in a sense it would be a shame to lose Eboue (remembering the 2006 Champions League run) but Sagna definately is first teamer as Zain has said.

lol, PV was definately box-to-box – he did everything tackle, boss the midfield, attack, score. remember his goal goal where he started the attack in our own box and the up in opposition box and scoring???

We’d be so dumb to let eboue go now. He clearly turned a corner over this season.
He would be a monster in serie a as well.

Vermaelen is NOT capable of playing at right back. It is only at left-back which he can, simply because he is left-footed.
Even so, he doesn’t have the structure of a full-back and definitely not a back-up at right back.

The signing of Melo would allow the Gunners to play 4-1-3-2, which is very fashionable at the moment, or even Barca’s 4-1-2-3. Melo and Denilson with Fab further forward would allow a 4-2-3-1. As for Eboue- Hoyte, Toure or even Song can fill in there. Arsenal with Fab, Den, Rosicky and Nasri plus Rambo, Vela, Wilshire, Randall, and Manny Thomas, and more, are not short of attacking midfield options. If you don’t rate these players- loan them to us please!!! And get Melo and Eboue swapped quickly!!!! He will be sensational and Eboue (plus Silly) are the most dispensible players Arsenal have.

I want Eboue to stay. Fantastic backup and is a great crosser of the ball. We should use him when playing the likes of Stoke and Bolton because he provides a different form of attack.
